Coimbatore: The DMK went past the ban to hold protests and demanded quick completion of the underground sewerage project in Mettupalayam. The police filed cases against the protestors.

The Mettupalayam Underground Sewerage Scheme was initiated to prevent the pollution of the Bhavani river. The project was started two years ago and began at a cost of Rs.91 crore rupees.

The project work commenced in all the 33 wards of the Municipality through TWAD and the roads that were dug out for the purpose of the underground sewerage works have not been closed for more than a year. This affects the motorists and the public who travel on these roads.

The DMK therefore staged the protest and demanded that the project be completed soon.

The protest that took place on the Ooty-Mettupalayam road witnessed the participation of more than 50 protestors. They raised slogans demanding the quick completion of the underground sewerage project. They also raised slogans insisting the TN government and the local body administration to use quality material.

The protests were led by the City Secretary Muhammed Younis and former MLA Arunkumar, State Executive Committee member Shanmugasundaram and party cadres participated in the protest.

Since the protest was held in violation of the COVID ban, police filed cases against the protestors.
