Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu AITUC Construction Workers Association petitioned the District Collector to instruct VAOs to provide construction workers with verification certificates.
They demanded that proof of verification should be provided to construction workers from the respective residential areas so that they could get registered with Welfare Boards including the one for construction workers and other unorganised sectors.
They said when the workers approach VAOs for verification certificates, they are asked redundant questions and subjected to inordinate delay. Some VAOs even blatantly deny the certificates. This causes a lot of grief to workers who want to register with the welfare boards, they said.
They pointed that the VAO of Ottarpalayam in Sulur circle has in fact been sending back people informing them that the government has no such scheme.

The association therefore requested the District Collector to intervene on their behalf and order the VAOs to provide verification certificates to the construction workers.
