Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Farmers Association Farmers Association petitioned the District Collector to provide E-passes to farmers and farm labourers in order to facilitate harvest and marketing of agricultural produce.
The members of the party led by the association president S. Palanisamy submitted the petition to the District Collector.
"Coimbatore farmers cultivate a lot of crops such as onions, tomatoes, cabbage, banana, coconut and ladies finger. Many such farmers and the workers employed in their farms, mainly the ones from district borders, travel between districts. With the lockdown in place, this has become difficult, which has led to problems with harvest and marketing of agricultural produce. E-passes are denied to this category of people. We request the district administration to provide passes to them. This also will ease the lives of those workers who are employed in the 100-day employment programme. This will help address the manpower shortage in in agriculture", the petition noted.
