Four porcupine hunters near Pollachi fined and warned
Coimbatore: The Forest Department received secret information about porcupine hunting at the Sethumadai-Mangarai forests. The area falls under Pollachi Forest Range and Anamalai Tiger Reserve. The Assistant Field Director of the range, Arogyaraj Xavier, ordered intense patrols in the area.
Following this, Forest Department personnel and guards from the Anti-Poaching squad led by Ranger Kasilingam started patrolling the area.
Under the circumstances, when the team was patrolling near Mayiladuthurai, they found 4 persons moving about in a suspicious manner. On enquiry, it was revealed that the quartet of Jayapal, Kanagaraj, Karthi, and Kumar had been hunting porcupines.
Following the enquiry, a hunted porcupine was confiscated from them and the four of them were taken to Anamalai Forest Office for further investigation after which they were levied a fine of Rs. 13,000 each.
Ranger Kasilingam warned if anyone is found hunting in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, they would be penalised and punished severely.
