Tamil Nadu COVID tally crosses 1.38 lakh with a single-day surge of 4,244 new cases today

Coimbatore: For the fifth consecutive day on Sunday, all districts in Tamil Nadu recorded new cases of COVID-19.

Coimbatore: For the fifth consecutive day on Sunday, all districts in Tamil Nadu recorded new cases of COVID-19.

The 4,244 new cases today pushed the overall case tally for the state to 1,38,470, but active cases remain much lower at 48,938.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 1966 with 68 fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours (25 private/43 govt).

Chennai added 1,168 new cases after which the overall tally of positives stands at 77,338.

Elsewhere in the state, the districts such as Kancheepuram, Madurai, Thiruvallur, Virudhunagar, Vellore, Chengalpattu, Trichy, Kanyakumari, Thiruvannamalai, Thoothukudi, Salem, and Coimbatore among others reported higher numbers today with Kancheepuram and and Madurai being the major contributors at 385 and 319 new cases, respectively.

While the Knitwear City of Tirupur registered 3 new cases, the hill district Nilgiris recorded 5.

In some positive news, the state has managed to discharge 89,532 persons so far including a whopping 3,617 today.
