Coimbatore: On July 10, Health Department officials stopped COVID tests for the incoming domestic flight passengers at the Coimbatore International Airport.
Backlog of test samples at Coimbatore Medical College and ESI laboratories were cited as the reason for this. Instead, officials advised all the landing passengers to home quarantine themselves.They were given self declaration forms and allowed to proceed out.
However, international passengers continued getting tested before they could leave the airport.
It is to be noted that the airport receives eight flights on an average daily, sees 450 to 500 passengers landing from various metros including Bengaluru, New Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad.
After drawing much ire and criticism from many quarters, the process resumed this morning. All the passengers are subjected to thermal scanning and swab tests.
