Coimbatore: The construction of the Ganapathy Avarampalayam overbridge is 90% complete. The bridge is expected to be put to public use from September.

The overbridge under construction over the Avarampalayam railway crossing is on the verge of completion.

More than 40 trains cross the tracks and traffic gets halted every time a train passes through the area causing huge traffic snarls. Following this, a railway overbridge was planned. The foundation for this was laid two years back and work commenced. With accelerated construction, it is said that over 90% of the work is complete. The bridge is 550 meters long and 12 meters wide.
Speaking about the bridge Highways officials said, "The overbridge is constructed at a cost of Rs.20 crore. 90% of the work is over. Only the laying of the service road below the overbridge is pending. With that completed soon, the bridge is expected to be opened to the public in September."
The bridge will be useful especially for the pedestrians who travel to areas such as Avarampalayam, Pappanaickenpalayam and Avinashi Road, among others, and it could also reduce the traffic on Sathy Road considerably.
