Woman cop tests positive for COVID in Gudalaur; Sub Registrar office closed

The Nilgiris: A 23-year-old woman constable from Gudalur tested positive for COVID-19 following which she has been admitted at Ooty Government Hospital for treatment.



The cop travelled to Coimbatore on July 4 for official purposes and was tested for COVID-19 on July 6th the result of which was declared positive on July 9. Subsequently, her residence and houses in the surrounding areas have been isolated. The Sub Registrar's office and the Cooperative bank in the vicinity have also been closed temporarily. Furthermore, two of her housemates and the cops who had been in direct contact with her are being tested for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old man from Mel Gudalur, KK Nagar who was receiving treatment at a private hospital for dengue was taken to a Coimbatore hospital as he contracted COVID-19. However, he succumbed to the disease the night before the last. Following this, the staff at the hospital where he was treated are undergoing PCR tests. The hospital has been closed temporarily.

A total of seven cases have been reported so far in the Gudalur and Pandalur areas. The news of the elderly man passing away due to COVID has caused panic amid the people in the area

Meanwhile, the Revenue and Police Departments have geared up the security measures.

Despite the security measures, complaints keep pouring about vegetable and goods lorries that illegally ferry passengers into the district. An advisory meeting led by the Gudalur RTO Rajkumar was held at the Gudalur RTO Office. Many lorry drivers attended the meeting. They have been strictly advised not to bring anybody into the district. It was reiterated that the lorries doing so would be confiscated.

It is to be noted that details pertaining to COVID fatalities in the Nilgiris district have not been issued officially by the District Administration, so far.
