First generation tribal girl from Pollachi aces 10th standard exams; gains appreciation and assistance of Rs.1 lakh from MK Stalin

Coimbatore: A first generation tribal girl who appeared for the class 10 exams aced it with an A+ grade making her father and her people proud.

Sridevi, the girl who aced the 10th standard exams is from the Poochakottaam Paarai tribal hamlet within the Anamalai Tiger Reserve of the Western Ghats, near Pollachi.

She belongs to the Muduvar tibe and her father Chellamuthu, sent Sridevi to study, while staying at a hostel in Chalakudy, Kerala. While the female members of her tribe were not even permitted to gaze at another man from outside the tribe or talk to men in general Sridevi's father Chellamuthu went against the norms and the elders of the tribe and sent his daughter out for education.



Making her father proud, Sridevi topped the 10th standard exam with high scores. This has caused the entire village to feel extremely proud and happy.

On hearing the news about this, DMK leader M.K. Stalin, the former Minister and party high level strategic committee member M.P. Saminathan, Madathukulam MLA Jayaram krishna, Tirupur South District Secretary Padmanabhan and Arthanari Palayam Town panchayat President Kulothungan visited Sridevi's house and presented her with shawls and expressed their appreciation. The DMK leader MK Stalin wished Sridevi via video chat and expressed his congratulations. She was then presented with Rs.1 lakh cheque by the DMK.

Speaking to the press Sridevi said, "Speaking to M.K. Stalin over video chat gives me a lot of encouragement and I thanked him. The assistance that was provided to me will help the family greatly."

She then expressed that she wished to study science and become a doctor following which she could help the tribal people in the forests and that it was her ambition to do so. M.K. Stalin appreciating the girl over the video call has brought great joy to the people of the tribe.
