Coimbatore: Corporation Commissioner J. Shravan Kumar inaugurated the new scheme which allows Corporation officials to monitor the people under quarantine through WhatsApp video calls.
The Corporation Commissioner said, "The Corporation administration has been undertaking various measures to control the spread of COVID-19 in the district. As an extension of this people arriving from other states and districts are being quarantined for 14 days. However, many people do not follow the mandatory regulations. In order to prevent this, we take the cell phone numbers of the quarantined. They will be contacted through WhatsApp and monitored. Teams of teachers have been formed in all the five zones to do this."
"There are 22 isolation areas in the five zones of the Corporation. The Corporation is undertaking arrangements through officials to provide the people in these areas with essentials. The public must hand used face masks, gloves and all other kinds of medical equipment wrapped up in paper bags over to the sanitation workers to be disposed of in the red bags available with them," he said.
"People residing in apartments within the Corporation area must undergo thermal scanning whenever they step in and out of the apartment building. Further, servants and drivers who enter the apartment complex also should undergo the scanning and use hand sanitizer to cleanse their hands. Gathering in common areas such as parks, swimming pools and gyms should be discouraged. Lifts and rails of the staircases must be disinfected everyday." he insisted.
He also advised, "The public must try their best to avoid stepping out to buy things on Saturdays and Sundays. Instead, they should plan their weekends all through the week, Monday to Friday."
