Coimbatore: 62 acres of SEZ land developed by 'ELCOT' in Vilankurichi would be shortly available for purchase at very affordable prices said an 'ELCOT' top official. 'CII' in association with 'ELCOT', Government of Tamil Nadu and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), today organised the 19th edition of 'Connect Coimbatore' on a virtual platform.

'CII' in association with 'ELCOT', Government of Tamil Nadu and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), today organised the 19th edition of 'Connect Coimbatore' on a virtual platform.

The objective of the event was 'Showcasing Coimbatore as an ICT investment destination' in the country with the Theme, 'Digital Disruption – A Business Advantage'.

Minister for Revenue, Disaster Management and Information technology, RB Udhaya Kumar inagurated the event and spoke about ambitious projects of the Government towards providing last mile internet connectivity to all the villages in the districts of Tamil Nadu through Bharatnet/Tamilnet. He also highlighted the capabilities of the ICT sector to strive through this pandemic and further attain our economic and social goals.

He assured that, "The Government of Tamil Nadu will provide full-fledged support to industries" and added, "The ELCOT and other agencies of the Government are working towards extending the reach of fiber optic internet connectivity to all the villages, particularly towards providing educational and healthcare services to all citizens. Sufficient ICT infrastructure will also be created to aid this development."

He focussed on the scheme of providing laptops to students in schools and colleges making them tech savvy in the near future and also towards enabling online educational services.

Additional Chief Secretary to Government, IT Department, Government of Tamil Nadu,Hans Raj Verma said, "Coimbatore is the next best destination for the growth of ICT sector in the state taking into account the factors of availability of talent pool, educational infrastructure and a salubrious climate."

'ELCOT' Managing director, M. Vijayakumar said, "In Coimbatore, about 62 acres of SEZ land has been developed by ELCOT in Vilankurichi area and would be shortly available for purchase at very affordable prices by industries looking at SEZ businesses. He also elaborated that a Startup Centre of Excellence will be incubated within this SEZ with around 2.5 million sq ft of space, within the next couple of years."

Chennai STPI Director, Dr. Sanjay Tyagi said, "Within 2022, the IT sector will be achieving a growth of USD 5 Trillion with a potential to grow at 15 – 16 % CAGR. Indian IT businesses contribute to about 5.6% to the Global IT businesses. He also highlighted that, STPI is seeing an increase in the export of services in Tamil Nadu and is investing in a Startup Centre of Excellence in FinTech, Virtual Reality and Cyber Security services."

CII Tamilnadu Chairman, Hari Thiagarajan said, "There are about 22 IT parks which are being se tup in the state. The size of the IT industry is Rs 1.22 Lakh Crore with employment generation of Rs.6 lakhs."

Earlier, CII Coimbatore Chairman, Ganesh Kumar welcomed the gathering. Senior officials from the Government and technology evangelists addressed the meeting. More than 250 participants from diverse sectors joined this event. The conference provided a platform to identify the growth potential for the sector and to understand the various new policy changes and advocacy measures undertaken in the industry.
