The Nilgiris: A popular homemade chocolate factory in Ooty has been sealed by the Health department officials for their claim that their chocolate increased immunity.

Following the case of herbal mysurpa in Coimbatore, a homemade chocolate factory in Ooty has been sealed due to their claim that their homemade chocolate would increase immunity.

Homemade chocolates are extremely popular in Ooty, and many tasty, and colourful varieties of chocolates are manufactured in various flavours and shapes. Tourists throng these shops and take back kilograms of these chocolates back to their homes.

Following the lockdown, the arrival of tourists came to a stand still, affecting the homemade chocolate business. As a result, one of the chocolate makers introduced a new chocolate claiming it would increase immunity. It was found that cocoa produced in Gudalur along with brown sugar, without any chemicals, was claimed to be the chocolate that could boost immunity. Words on the pack read, 'increases immunity due to the increased cocoa content'.

On receiving information about this, the district Health Department officials along with the FSSAI officials conducted an inspection at the factory.

Since the factory had not obtained any permission from the government before advertising its product with immune boosters, it was sealed.
