Coimbatore: As per State Government orders, COVID-19 testing at the Coimbatore airport for domestic flight passengers has been suspended since last 2 days.
Until two days back, all the domestic and international flight passengers who arrived at the Coimbatore International airport were being tested for COVID-19 using swab tests. They were also quarantined in hotels or state facilities until the test results were declared.
Now though, coronavirus tests for domestic passengers have been suspended. Sources in the airport have said that this is due to the backlog of samples to be tested in the ESI. This could also be because the Govt canceled the testing of passengers using private labs in Coimbatore 3 days back. Health department officials are collecting the details of passengers upon arrival. They are placing a seal in the passenger's hand and advise the passengers to isolate themselves in their homes now.
The passengers are asked to sign a self-declaration form to be in home quarantine as directed. If the health officials identify any symptoms with the passengers, they are advised to immediately take a COVID-19 test.
Every day more than 500 people come to Coimbatore by air from various places including Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. The risk of COVID-19 has been further increased as it may be transmitted by air passengers since the tests have been suspended. The international flights passengers will be continued to be subjected to RT-PCR test on arrival.
