Coimbatore: The district administration on Friday, has stepped up containment measures in Ikkarai Boluvampatti and Semmedu villages of Thondamuthur block here, after new COVID-19 cases have been reported.
According to sources, two people allegedly have been picked up from the areas after they were tested positive for the novel Coronavirus. The villagers are left in shock as they presumed their villages to be safe from COVID spread compared to urban parts of the city.
Meanwhile, Coimbatore district reported a staggering surge of more than 1,000 cases till July 9.

With new cases reported in Ikkarai Boluvampatti and Semmedu villages of Thondamuthur block, the areas have been closed down for fumigation works. Tracing of contacts of people who were tested positive have commenced.
