Coimbatore: The Director of Smart city projects Rahul Kapoor lauded the Coimbatore Smart City projects and said that they were an example to the rest of the country. Corporation Commissioner J. Shravan Kumar attended the Smart City meeting and further conducted inspections at the various zones of the Corporation.

Corporation Commissioner J. Shravan Kumar inspected the quantity of chlorine being used in the water tank in ward no. 96, Saradha Mill road of the South Zone of the Corporation.
He inspected the medical check up being done to the public in the containment zone of Sullivan Street, ward no.79 under the South Zone of the Corporation. The flying squad officials were also present for the inspection.
Corporation Deputy Commissioner S. Madhuranthagi along with the flying squad officials inspected the containment zone in ward no. 36 under the East Zone of the Coimbatore Corporation.
She also inspected an apartment that has been declared a containment zone in ward no. 36 of the east Zone.
Medical camp held at the Central Zone, Ward no.72, Somasundaram Street, Kattoor area was inspected by the Corporation Commissioner along with the Corporation Flying Squad members.
The Smart City scheme was launched in June 2015 to improve the infrastructure, technology, transport, telecommunication , medicine, education and employment in 100 chosen cities of India. Under this scheme Chennai, Salem, Coimbatore and 12 other cities have been selected and Smart City Scheme is being implemented at those places.
Under the Smart City Scheme the Ukkadam Periyakulam, Kurichi Kulam, Valan Kulam and nine other lakes have been rehabilitated and their banks have been strengthened. Further cycling paths, walking paths and parks have been set up.
An advisory meeting of the Smart City projects was held today. During the meeting, Rahul Kapoor the director of the Smart City Schemes, Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs said, "The Coimbatore Smart City projects have set an example to the rest of the country. The Smart City projects done in Coimbatore surpass the projects done in the other cities. It is exceptionally good", he appreciated. Arrangements have been made to explain the Smart City projects undertaken in Coimbatore at a national level conference.
In his speech Rahul Kapoor said, "Other cities must take the example set by Coimbatore and try to work on their Smart City projects. Motorless transport, cycling pathways and the pathway set up in the nine lakes are commendable executions and the other cities must also implement this", he insisted.
The CEO of the project J. Shravan Kumar thanked the guidance of the Minister for Municipal Administration S.P. Velumani,and thanked and appreciated the authorities and workers who functioned for the success of this project.
