TN CM lays foundation for new Medical College in the Nilgiris through video conferencing

The Nilgiris: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new government medical college at Ooty in the Nilgiris district through video conference.

The medical college is to be constructed at a total cost of Rs447.32 crore at the 40 acre land ear-marked near Finger post area in Ooty. While 25 acres of land is contributed by the Forest Department, the remaining 15 acres is contributed by the Animal Husbandry Department.

The 40-acre campus will have a super-specialty hospital, quarters for doctors, hostels for students, a control room for 108 ambulances, among other facilities.

The people of the Nilgiris district has expressed immense relief, as they had to travel all the way to Coimbatore or Kerala for advanced treatment facilities.

A super speciality hospital and a medical college will save hundreds of people, as lack of timely treatment has claimed many lives in the past, the public opine.

The event was attended by Coonoor MLA Shanthi Ramu, Ex-MP K.R Arjunan and government officials.
