4 lakhs collected in fines from the public not wearing masks in rural areas

Coimbatore: Intense surveillance is being carried out to control the spread of coronavirus in all the areas of Coimbatore District.

Coimbatore: Intense surveillance is being carried out to control the spread of coronavirus in all the areas of Coimbatore District.

Violators of the COVID restrictions are fined on the spot. On those lines, a total of about 4 lakhs has been collected in fines from those who did not wear face masks.

There are 1,200 villages sprawling across 228 panchayats in the district of Coimbatore. Steps are being taken to prevent coronavirus outbreaks in these areas, including spraying of disinfectants, door-to-door fever checks, etc, In addition to this, various departmental workers work in conjunction with the Health department personnel at the checkpoints in district borders.

A Rural Welfare officer from Coimbatore said, "There are 52 weekly markets in the rural areas of Coimbatore. Intense surveillance is being undertaken to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection through these markets. About 4 lakhs has been collected in fines from those who did not wear face masks. The public have been advised to contact 1077 if they have information about people who come from other districts and states without E-passes."
