In an interview, Sivan who had dedicated his life to the welfare of the tribal people said, "I reside at the Vannarapettai area of Coonoor. For the past 30 years, I have travelled 15 kilometers everyday to deliver posts to the tribals. Tribal hamlets around the Hillgrove and Orderly areas comprise mostly uneducated tribals. Most of my daily hikes involved dense forests."
Apart from delivering mail to the tribals, Sivan used to help them pay to and draw money from the post office. He recalled how he would encounter animals such as elephants, bears and bison on his daily travel through 15 kms of dense forests. He used to cross many streams and waterfalls on the way. Despite the hardship, Sivan says he performed his duties with utmost happiness and fulfillment.
IAS officer Supriya Sahu tweeted about Sivan, "Sivan worked exceptionally well for the past 30 years delivering posts, travelling 15 kms every day. Dense and unfriendly forests have been tread by him. Commendable service."
IPS officer Vijayakumar tweeted, "Sivan's work in connecting the country is appreciable."
Sivan's service has gained appreciation from many quarters. Netizens keep lauding him through their posts. District Postal Department Deputy Supervisor Banumathi spoke regarding this and said, "When a postman is appointed for a village, they work only four hours a day and retire when they turn 65 and government appoints them as part-time workers, but Sivan went beyond that stipulation by working tirelessly for 30 years. The Postal Department is happy to commend him."
