Karthik in a press release today. He pointed out that only after the opposition parties including DMK demanded for days together, the government reported district-wise details of the number of tests done per day. He said it is so very perplexing as to why that the report was released for just that day and stopped thereafter.

He pointed out that only after the opposition parties including DMK demanded for days together, the government reported district-wise details of the number of tests done per day. He said it is so very perplexing as to why that the report was released for just that day and stopped thereafter.
Recalling the widely circulated news a couple days ago that reported 116 out of the 200 subjected to PCR testing in the Selvapuram area tested positive, the MLA questioned, "Why did the Health Department blindly deny this and report just 35 positives without any explanation whatsoever? What is the intention of the District Administration? Why this falsification of numbers claiming that there is no alarming increase in the rate of infection?"
He lashed, "As far as COVID goes, if you try to hide the lurking danger it will soon explode as a grave danger as witnessed by the increasing number of cases in Coimbatore."
He complained that, "Despite two representations from the Coimbatore District DMK on 29.05.2020 and 06.07.2020 seeking the District Administration to provide information on the number of coronavirus examination centers, number of positive cases, hospital-wise positive cases the district and the number of COVID fatalities, there has not been an iota of response."
MLA's statement also included a question to the State Government, "Why hasn't the TN Government responded to the queries pertaining to the stock of medicines and number of ventilators?"
He urged the District Administration to act on a war footing, create a plan, publish the COVID numbers openly, and provide a 24-hour helpline to curb the spread of COVID infections.
He concluded his release with a request, "On behalf of all the people in Coimbatore District, I request the District Administration to be vigilant and open minded about the spread of coronavirus in the district and undertake necessary precautionary measures."
