Coimbatore: Government employees from nearby districts such as Tirupur, Nilgris have alleged that police are not allowing them cross district borders to reach their workplace.
Coimbatore: Government employees from nearby districts such as Tirupur, Nilgris have alleged that police are not allowing them cross district borders to reach their workplace.
Employees have requested the District Collector to intervene in this issue and make necessary arrangements for them to make it to the office. In order to control the 'Covid-19' spread, Tamil nadu government has ordered all the government offices to work with 50% workforce. It has also asked the concerned heads of the department to engage their employees on shift basis.
Previously the government allowed inter-districts public transportation. Whereas now it has been banned and permission is only given for emergency and essential services. Due to this hundreds of employees working at various government offices in Coimbatore district are struggling to come for work.
Government employees who work inside collector office premises said "There are more than 50 government departments functioning inside the district collector office premises in which more than 1,000 employees are working. Due to 'Covid-19' precautionary measures, the workforce has been reduced to 50%. Among the total employees, more than 100 employees from Coimbatore district collector office alone are coming from the nearby districts such as Tirupur, Nilgris etc. "
Since at present inter district public transportation is banned. These employees are finding it difficult to come for work. In spite of showing their identity cards, policemen working at the border checkposts are not allowing their vehicles to cross the border. All the Employees are presently made to work on shift basis, and hence each of them will be working only for a few days in a week. This makes it difficult for them to permanently stay at Coimbatore too.
The employees alleged that E-pass, permissions were also not given. Hence each and every time when they come to work, they have to overcome heated arguments with the police at the checkposts. Due to this issue, some of them are returning back to their homes Which ultimately results in losing attendance for that concerned day, and also to incur loss of pay following which government works are also getting affected.
Hence they requested the district collector to intervene in this issue and ensure government employees from nearby districts are able to come for work at Coimbatore without any difficulties.
