Municipality officials inspected the Bharathidasan Shopping Complex in the Old Bus stand area of Gudalur. This building has been in use for more than 30 years and many parts of the building are in a worn down state. The vegetable and meat markets in the center of the complex face water seepage due to the top floor being empty.
Similarly the toilets in the first floor have have become completely unusable, causing unbearable stench and creating a discomfort for the traders and the public. Since the top floor is abandoned, anti-social activities such as liquor drinking and urinating happen often. This complaint was placed to the Municipal Commissioner Bhaskar by the BJP unorganised sector Trade Union's District Administrator Nagendran and the traders on behalf of the vegetable traders.
Following this the Municipal Commissioner inspected the site along with the Municipal workers and employees.
During the inspection it was found that two toilets in the top floor have been locked as some of the traders had been using it as a place to store some of their things. The Commissioner immediately took action to remove the things and ordered for the health hazardous toilets in the lower floor to be closed down. Instead people were asked to use the toilets on the top floor.
He also inspected the places that had water seepage and ordered for necessary repairs to be undertaken. Similarly a decision was made to bring the unused top floor into use for the small vendors and to provide protection to prevent the anti-social activities that were taking place there. He assured the traders of immediate action.
The Municipal workers measured the top floor to bring it into use. Municipality Engineer Parthsarathy, Health Inspector Saravanan, Overseer Prabhakaran and Municipality workers were present for the inspection.
