People arriving at Coimbatore GH with COVID symptoms treated in two special wards until test results arrive
Coimbatore: People who arrive at the Coimbatore GH with COVID symptoms are treated in two special wards until the test results arrive.
Patients from a number of districts including Tirupur, Nilgiris and Coimbatore visit the Government Hospital in Coimbatore for various illnesses. The number of arrivals have declined since the pandemic began though.
This being the case, the hospital admits tests and treats patients who arrive with COVID symptoms. The GH carries out 1500 RT-PCR tests. However, before the results are returned, the symptomatic patients are admitted into two special wards based on the nature of their symptoms. While patients displaying symptoms like cold and cough are treated in the ILI (Influenza Like Illness) ward, the ones suffering from respiratory difficulties such as wheezing receive treatment in the SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) ward.
If the test outcome is positive, the patient is then transferred to the ESI hospital, said the GH administration. According to the hospital sources around 10 patients in the ILI ward and around 8 in the SARI ward are under treatment at present.
