Satheeswaran (42) hails from the Sri Lankan refugee camp in Pooluvapatti, Coimbatore. He works as a painter and is said to be alcoholic. On June 23, he tried to kill himself by climbing on an electric pole at the refugee camp on June 23. On contact with a live electric cable, he was thrown off the pole.
Subsequently, he was admitted to the Government Hospital in Coimbatore and was receiving treatment there for the past 14 days. Not responding to treatment, he died yesterday.
After conducting an inquest based on the complaint lodged by his sibling Keerthanan, The Alandurai police handed over Satheeswaran's body to his relatives after an autopsy.
