Coimbatore: An old man from Tirupur who was being treated at the Coimbatore ESI Hospital for COVID-19 managed to escape from the hospital. He was, however, traced and admitted back into the hospital.
COVID-19 patients in Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Tirupur have been admitted at the Coimbatore ESI hospital for treatment.
There have been few instances where some of the patients who undergo treatment have tried to escape the hospital. In one such shocking incident, a patient from Kundadam in Tirupur who tested positive for COVID after he was admitted for kidney ailment at the Coimbatore Government Hospital and transferred to the ESI hospital, tried to escape.
The patient managed to come out of the hospital this morning unnoticed by anyone and called his son to inform him that he had escaped from the hospital and that he should pick him up.
Taken aback by this, the son informed the Atma Foundation, a social service organisation. Members of the Atma foundation along with the help of the Singanallur police traced the man following which a 108 ambulance was brought to transfer the patient back to the hospital. The patient was then taken back to ESI Hospital.
This incident has been met with disapproval by the public who wonder if there is a lapse in the security arrangement at the ESI causing COVID-19 patients to escape from the hospital.
