Karunakaran (51) from Kollimalai-Chemanthaada near Coonoor was deputed as a head constable with the Armed Forces in Ooty.
He was in Gudalur to offer protection for the cremation of a lorry driver who had self immolated himself a couple of days ago.
While on duty, Karunakaran was found unconscious in a department vehicle. His colleagues rushed him to the Gudalur Government Hospital for treatment where he was declared dead on arrival. The informed that the cop succumbed to cardiac arrest.
The incident caused a great deal of sorrow amid the colleagues of the deceased.
