Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Women Journalists Association has issued a release condemning Maridhas who has been releasing videos accusing Journalists of a TV Channel and issuing threats to the families of the journalists.
In the release, they noted that "Media mirrors all societal issues and acts as a bridge between the people and the government. Reflecting the troubled voice of the common man, media acts as a watchdog and ensures that various policies and welfare measures of the government reach the public."
They lamented that in the recent times, media persons are being targeted by some people for their own political agenda who even dare to stalk the families of the members of media on social media.
The release said the inaction of the government against people like S.V. Sekar who spoke abusively of women journalists has opened the floodgates for such behaviour by nobodies like Maridhas.
The members of the association have urged the government to initiate appropriate action against those who involve in such rants and spread baseless allegations on social media with a hidden agenda to tarnish the media company and the journalists.
They jointly appealed to the government to block the social media pages of such people who falsely accuse media people.
