Gold workshops functioning in Chetti Veedhi and nearby areas in Selvapuram and Townhall have been advised by the District Administration to down their shutters from tomorrow due to the spread of COVID-19.
Coimbatore: Gold workshops functioning in Chetti Veedhi and nearby areas in Selvapuram and Townhall have been advised by the District Administration to down their shutters from tomorrow due to the spread of COVID-19.
Due to the increased spread of COVID-19, the number of people affected by the disease has increased. Testing has also been increased due to this. The testing conducted at the Ashok Nagar area in Selvapuram on 200 persons revealed that 116 of them were COVID-19 positive. Following this, the entire area has been brought under the control of the Health Department. The area was sprayed with disinfectants and has been declared a containment zone. It has also been cordoned off and is being monitored.
Due to this the gold workshops in the Selvapuram, Chetti Veedhi and Telungupalayam areas have been advised by the District Administration to be closed down from tomorrow.
It is to be noted that more than 1.5 lakh goldsmiths have been affected due to COVID-19 directly or indirectly. Meanwhile, the proprietors of the workshops have requested for two days to secure gold and other valuable objects in their workspots.
