The Nilgiris: Movement of Indian gaurs in the tea estates in Kotagiri caused panic among the public.
Wildlife movement in the mountainous region of Nilgiris is common. Indian gaurs are especially quite commonly spotted in Coonoor, Kotagiri and the surrounding villages of Manjoor, Kundah, Thuthurmattam and Selas. Meanwhile, a herd of Indian gaurs was spotted in the tea estates at Kotagiri on Sunday.
The herd was spotted in the Kambaikadai region in Kotagiri. This has caused panic amid the residents of the area causing them to remain cautious when they step out. The residents of the area have requested the Forest Department to drive the bisons into the deep forests, before any untoward incident happens.
Wildlife movement also causes damage to the tea estates and agricultural lands. There have been many animal attacks. Some of them have resulted in loss of human lives too.
