Coimbatore: Delay in Kavundampalayam overbridge construction has become a major inconvenience to motorists plying from other parts of the city to Kavundampalayam and Thudiyalur areas.
Coimbatore: Delay in Kavundampalayam overbridge construction has become a major inconvenience to motorists plying from other parts of the city to Kavundampalayam and Thudiyalur areas.
Work is underway to build an overhead bridge with about 29 pillars over a thousand meters from the housing unit to the Ramasamy Kalyana Mandapam at the Coimbatore Kavundampalayam junction. Similarly, at the GN Mills junction, a construction project with about 15 towers over a length of 670 meters is also underway.
The work began in March last year, and even after 16 months later, the work has been so slow that it is causing difficulty to people. Despite the impact due to lockdown, the work is now underway after the relaxation. But with fewer people coming to work, the work has been further slowed.
When these bridges are completed, the number of passengers travelling on the bridge will be 70 per cent and the number of people traveling on the service road under the bridge will be 30 percent. Thus, the traffic burden will significantly reduce in both areas.
But the delay with the bridge work is creating constant traffic delays on the Coimbatore Mettupalayam Road. The congestion is not helping people to follow social distancing and the people of the area feel that the work should be expedited and the construction of the bridge should be completed soon.
