Tamil Nadu continued to witness record single-day spikes on Sunday for four days in a row. The state today registered its biggest single-day spike ever after nearly 4,000 new cases have been recorded over the last 24 hours.
With the addition of today's positives, the total number of COVID cases in Tamil Nadu has now reached a humongous 82,275.
The death toll in Tamil Nadu rose to 1,079 after 58 more Coronavirus fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours (10 private and 44 government)
Despite being under an intense lockdown, Chennai continues to be the major contributor to the spikes. The State Capital recorded a whopping 1,992 new cases today.
With 5 and 3 new positives, the tallies of the districts of The Nilgiris and Tirupur soard to 71 and 150, respectively.
Per the state health department, a total of 31,505 samples were tested today and over a million lakh samples have been obtained till date.
Active cases in the state stand at 35,656 while as many as 45,537 COVID positive patients have been discharged from the hospitals after fully recovering from the juggernaut virus. The discharges also include 1,443 new recoveries from today.
