Speaking at the meeting he requested, " The Central Government must give up the amendment bill and move electricity from the public list to the state list. The State government must pass a resolution in the assembly against the bill. A signature campaign is being held and three lakh signatures will be collected in two months insisting on these demands. This will then be sent to the Central government."
"The signature campaign began in Erode the day before yesterday. The state government must resist the Central Government's decision to cancel free electricity, as best as it can. Why must the BJP government that says it won't cancel free electricity pressurise the state government? The CMs of Andhra, Punjab and Haryana are proclaiming that they will stop the central government in its tracks. The most affected by this decision of the Central government is TN", he said.
"Many farmers have registered themselves for the free electricity and are waiting for more than 15 years. All of them must be provided with an electricity connection. Handlooms, powerloom sand houses must continue to be provided electricity at a concession rate", he requested.
He also noted that some of the members of the Farmers' Association have been making false campaigns for their own benefit. "If the free electricity being provided to farmers is cancelled farmers will unite and agitate in a huge protest that will be held all over Tamilnadu", he warned.
