The farmers of Tamil Nadu in Anaikatti in the Coimbatore district and the surrounding areas have been cultivating cotton, banana, maize and vegetable crops in Attappadi, Solaiyur and Kottathurai in Kerala.
In this context, police have been deploying strong security measures across state borders as curfew has been enforced due to coronavirus infection for the past three months. All roads leading from state to district and from state to state are subjected to stringent checks.
It is impossible for anyone to leave the states without a pass. As a result, farmers in villages like Anaikkatti in Coimbatore district are unable to go to their land in Kerala for farming.
Therefore, the Non-Political Farmers' Association has filed a petition with the District Collector seeking permission to go to Kerala for farming. Joint Secretary of Women's wing the Non-Political Farmers' Association, Maha Lakshmi, said that due to lockdown they are unable to go to their farmlands in which several crops including vegetables are being farmed. She said the crops have been laid to waste as they are unable to go to their farms.
