With Chennai closing its borders due to the lockdown, the Coimbatore police, under the guidance of West Zone IGP Periaiah, Coimbatore DIG Karthikeyan, DSP Sujith Kumar, are undertaking action at all the state and district borders.
On June 21, at the check post at the Coimbatore District border near Thekkalur, four cars that came from Chennai without E-passes and 21 vehicles that had more than the permitted number of passengers were seized.
Similarly, on June 22 the check posts at Thekkalur, Walayar, Kangayampalayam and Gopalapuram were inspected by Coimbatore DSP in person. He distributed face shields to the policemen on duty at the checkposts and ordered them to conduct intensive checks.
As a result of the vehicle checks, 16 cars and eight two wheelers that tried to enter the district without an E-passes and 29 cars with more than the permitted number of passengers and one two wheeler were seized. A total of 54 vehicles have been confiscated.
The Coimbatore Police is intent on conducting these checks continuously and the public have therefore been requested to avoid such violations.
