COVID-19: City businessman tests positive; residence and shop in Gandhipuram area sealed

Coimbatore: The spread of COVID-19 for a brief time which looked under control in Coimbatore has now been rampantly proliferating, after traffic between districts and states have been opened up. Especially, those from Chennai and their contacts are the ones affected in the recent COVID positive cases.


Coimbatore: The busy Gandhipuram 3rd Street was sealed off on Monday, after a city businessman was tested positive for COVID.   

While the spread of COVID-19 for a brief time looked under control in Coimbatore; the rampant increase in cases over the week has alerted the people to be vigilant.

On Monday, 3rd street in Gandhipuram was closed down after the owner of Chennai Mobiles, a popular showroom for cell phones, was tested positive for COVID-19. Following this, the health department has started tracing the customers who visited the shop. 

According to reports, the owner of the shop had reportedly travelled to Chennai to attend a funeral. After he had returned from Chennai, he had presented symptoms of fever and visited a private hospital where he was tested positive for COVID. 

Further, the 3rd Street Gandhipuram, where the shop and the house of the  owner is located, has been cordoned off and barricades have been placed. Additionally, street numbers four and 11 have also been closed after three staff of GRT Jewellers located in the same area tested positive on Sunday. 

In spite of the many restrictions in place, the alarming spread of the virus has caused many areas to be cordoned off by the health department.
