Coimbatore: The verdict for the honour killing case of Udumalpet Shankar has been pronounced. The Madras High Court on Monday gave a verdict acquitting Kausalya's father, who was accused for his direct involvement in the murder case.
Expressing his disappointment regarding the verdict, TPDK K. Ramakrishnan said, "The heights of honour killing happened in Udumalai Shankar-Kausalya case. Shankar was slaughtered in broad daylight. Kausalya's father Chinnasamy and the henchmen were initially granted death penalty. However the appeal hearing at the High Court has released Kausalya's father and the other have been granted life sentences."
"While it is considered that Kausalya's father instigated the crime, he has been acquitted. This is not at all acceptable", informed the TPDK functionary.
Ramakrishnan further said, "The reduction of a death sentence to a life imprisonment is unacceptable. The TN Government must appeal against this and appropriate punishment must be given to the perpetrators of the crime."
