Coimbatore: The Executive Committee meeting of the Federation of Trade Associations Coimbatore (FTAC) was held on June 3, 2020. The Secretary of the FTAC wrote a letter to the members regarding the meeting.
He has written, "One of the topics of discussion was regarding the lifestyle changes of the trading community. Traders have been having long working hours (actual permissible hours are eight) when compared to any other work. This lockdown has definitely taught us the value of family and social responsibilities. We have also realized that we are quite comfortable with the existing time of work. Our staff is also very happy with it.
Therefore, now is the right time to change and adapt to a new timing schedule for a better future. Please understand that it is up to us to maintain business hours which are comfortable for us. Customers will automatically adapt to us.
The Confederation of all India Traders (CAIT) in consultation with our Home minister has also been having this discussion of regulated timings for all trades. However, this could vary as per the city and the kind of trade.
The FTAC would like to propose comfortable work hours of 10 AM to 7PM in Coimbatore for all traders which would be quite comfortable for all of us. However, we understand that certain trades may have to extend their working hours as per their customer pattern, but the majority can maintain these timings."
The FTAC also called for feedback from the other associations to arrive at a positive conclusion.
