Coimbatore: A young couple was separated by the girl's parents who brought in unidentified mercenaries and took away the girl from her husband's house. The husband has filed a complaint at the Thudiyalur Police station.
Karthikeyan (35) of Vidya Colony in Luna Nagar, Edayarpalayam was in love with Sakthi Tamizhini Prabha (25), from Trichy, for the past few years. The girl's family did not agree to a wedding between the two. The couple then tied the knot in a self-respect marriage in Coimbatore on June 5.
On June 19, the girl's father, mother and unidentified men attacked Karthikeyan and his mother and took away the girl against her will. Following this, Karthikeyan filed a complaint at the Thudiyalur Police Station.
While the girl's father is a police department retiree, the boy hails from a financially backward family. The economic status of the boy's family is cited as the reason for the disapproval of the marriage by the girl's parents. On top of this, the boy and the girl are from different castes.
The CCTV footage of the girl being taken away by her family against her will has now gone viral.
