MLA Na Karthik calls for action against illegally operating TASMAC bars

MLA N, Karthik has written to the Coimbatore District Collector requesting for action to be taken against a few TASMAC shops that have been selling liquor in their bars.

Coimbatore: MLA N, Karthik has written to the Coimbatore District Collector requesting for action to be taken against a few TASMAC shops that have been selling liquor in their bars.

In the letter he noted, "TASMAC bars located near Kuniamuthur Bus stand and the bar at TASMAC shop No.1751 at Edayarpalayam have been providing liquor illegally." He requested the District Collector to take action against these TASMAC shops.

He cited the TN government press release issued on May 5 that said, "All TASMAC shops will be opened from May 7 and crowding must be avoided at the shops. Social distancing between each person must be maintained at six feet. More than five persons must not assemble at the TASMAC shops at any point in time. TASMAC shops do not have permission to open the bars."

He noted that, "Failing to follow the order of the government, some of the TASMAC shops have reopened their bars for customers. This includes the TASMAC bar located near Kamarajar Mandram, Kuniyamuthur Bus stand, Thondamuthur constituency in Coimbatore and the bar at TASMAC shop no. 1751 located near the sand market at Edayarpalayam."

He further said, "The public have been offering their full support to negate the spread of COVID-19 which is a highly communicable and deadly disease. However, the TASMAC shops have thrown caution and government issued guidelines to the winds. They do not maintain social distancing and more than five people gather at a time."

He also requested, "As it is, the spread of COVID-19 has been increasing in Coimbatore day by day. The loss and the impact it has on people brings about fear. The TASMAC bars opened illegally will only aid in the increase of the spread of the disease. The District Collector must therefore take action against these TASMAC shops and protect the people from being impacted by the virus."
