Three days ago,, a severely injured leopard was spotted in a farm in the Methepalayam village near Mettupalayam. The leopard from the Chenaamalai forest area of the Sirumugai forest range had grave injuries all over its stomach, chest and back inflicted by barbed wire placed by miscreants.
The leopard was rescued by the Forest department workers and was being provided treatment at a government wood warehouse in Mettupalayam.
Special forest department veterinarians from Coimbatore visited the animal and treated the feline. It was being offered antibiotics, glucose and vitamins.
However, the leopard failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed today, causing great sadness among wild life enthusiasts.
The death of the leopard is being investigated by the Sirumugai Forest Department officials. They are on the lookout for the persons who placed the barbed wire in farm-to-farm investigations.
