Two thieves connected with the theft of centering sheets from various areas of Coimbatore were arrested and goods worth Rs.15 lakhs were seized from them.
Coimbatore: Two thieves connected with the theft of centering sheets from various areas of Coimbatore were arrested and goods worth Rs.15 lakhs were seized from them.
Thefts have been reported at various places in Coimbatore, particularly the theft of centering sheets used in construction. To investigate this, per the order of DSP Sujith Kumar, a special team was formed under the Thuidiyalur Police Inspector.
While the team was conducting vehicular inspection on the Mettupalayam Coimbatore Road, a lorry from Mettupalayam carrying a load of centering sheets was inspected. During the investigation, the two persons in the lorry spoke in a contradictory manner. Suspecting their statements, the police seized the lorry and interrogated them further.
On investigation, it was found that the driver of the lorry Khaja Hussain and his accomplice Ramesh Anthony were involved in the theft of centering sheets at various places.
It also came to light that there were eight cases on both of them at the Thudiyalur, Periyanaickenpalayam, Karamadai, Mettupalayam, Saravanampatti, Kovilpalayam and Chettipalayam police stations already. Following this, the duo were arrested and imprisoned at the Coimbatore Central Prison. Rs.15 lakhs worth of centering sheets and material were recovered from them.
