New Delhi: One commanding officer and two soldiers were killed at Galwan Valley, one of the standoff points high in the snow desert of Ladakh, on Tuesday.

The three Indian Army soldiers were martyred during the ongoing clash between India and Chinese troops, during the de-escalation process between the two sides in the Galwan valley, which sparked a violent face-off between the two sides on Monday night.

The tension that flared up on Monday night was triggered by weeks of rising friction and deployment of thousands of extra troops from both sides in the region.

One of the martyrs, Palani, was from Tamil Nadu with his native village being Kadakalur in Ramanathapuram district. He has been in service for the past 28 years.

Chief Minister Edapadi K Palanisamy has condoled the death of Palani in a tweet. He has expressed his heartfelt grief and tribute to the brave soldier who lost his life for the nation.

Opposition leader MK Stalin also in his tweet has reached out to the family of the martyred soldier.

The fatalities reported in a confrontation between the two powers on Tuesday are believed to be the first in decades . It is to be noted that they have fought just one war so far, in 1962.
