Coimbatore: A young man allegedly struggling with family and mental issues killed himself by jumping off the Gandhipuram bridge, causing shock among the citizens of Coimbatore.
According to initial reports, Premkumar (35) of the Rathinapuri area allegedly killed himself due to some personal issues with his family. In a fit of rage, Premkumar has allegedly left from his house in his two wheeler, late evening.
His family who were worried of the situation had lodged a complaint to the Rathinapuri police station to look out for him.
While his family members were lodging the complaint, the police received information that a person on a two wheeler with registration number TN 66 S 6262 had parked the two wheeler on the bridge and had jumped off the bridge and killed himself.
Suspecting the person could be Premkumar, the police rushed to the spot with Premkumar's family and confirmed that it was indeed him.
On further investigation, it is alleged that he was mentally unstable and had recently nabbed by the police for illegally selling liquor in his car, during the lockdown. Citing his mental condition, he was later released.
The police have retrieved his body and sent for autopsy. Investigations are on.
