Forest Department rescued and provided treatment to an injured leopard in Mettupalayam
Forest Department rescued an injured leopard, which got stuck in thorny bushes near Mettupalayam and treated it. Situated close to mountain range Mettupalayam and surrounding areas are home to a large number of wild animals including elephants, deer and leopards. The wildlife occasionally leave the forest and enter the agricultural areas in the foothills in search of food and water.
On those lines, leopard movement began to increase in recent times in Mettupalayam. As recent as four months ago, a leopard was captured by the forest department, when cattle were frequently killed in the Chennimalai region.
In this case, a leopard entered a private farm in the Arivoli Nagar Karadu forest and got stuck in some thorny bushes which caused injuries to its abdomen and head following which the big cat was fighting for its life.
People in the vicinity reported this to the forest department. Following this, the forest department tried to recover the leopard. However, the public upon hearing the information, started gathering, delaying the rescue. Thereafter, the forest department decided to treat the leopard in Coimbatore after tranquilising it.
