COVID-19: Nursing staff testing positive in Coimbatore and added to Tirupur list, recovers; no active case in Tirupur

Tirupur: The 19-year-old nursing student from Erode who was tested positive for COVID-19 at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on June 8 has fully recovered. During a repeat PCR test today, she was confirmed negative for COVID.


Tirupur: The 19-year-old nursing student from Erode who was tested positive for COVID-19 at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on June 8 has fully recovered. During a repeat PCR test today, she was confirmed negative for COVID.

The patient initially added to Coimbatore list was later cross-notified and added to Tirupur list. Unfortunately, Tirupur district which maintained an unaltered 114 cases for over three weeks, turned 115 with this case.

According to Tirupur District Collector, K Vijayakarthikeyan, "The test results of the nursing student, who was added to Tirupur’s list yesterday has come out negative (originally tested positive on June 8). All the patient’s contacts have been traced and tested to be negative."

He added that the patient who is being treated at ESI Hospital in Coimbatore is likely to be discharged, soon.

The total number of people in house quarantine is 1195 and today 59 people (travel history) have been newly added to the existing home quarantine list and 113 people have completed the 14-day quarantine period, apprised the Collector.
