Coimbatore Police Commissioner has ordered for recently-arrested four serial offenders to be booked under the Goondas Act. The four men have been involved in serial offences in the D-1 Ramanathapuram Police limits.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Police Commissioner has ordered for recently-arrested four serial offenders to be booked under the Goondas Act. The four men have been involved in serial offences in the D-1 Ramanathapuram Police limits.
Serial crimes are on the rise in Ramanathapuram and Puliakulam areas in the D-1 Ramanathapuram Police limits. Under the orders of the City Police Commissioner Sumit Sharan and the Deputy Commissioner Balaji Saravanan, a team led by Police Inspector Murugesan conducted intense patrolling in the area.
They arrested various people involved in fights, murder attempts and robbery. In the past six months eight people have been arrested for serial offences and now the Goondas Act has been implemented on them. Following this, four more miscreants have been ordered to be booked under the Goondas Act by the Police Commissioner.
In a press release issued by the Police department it said, "Vishnu, S/o Balan residing at Thulla Arumugam streetin Puliakulam within the Ramanathapuram Police limits was attacked with a knife and injured by Charles Sriram (21), Uday Vikram (20), Jockey (a) Pradeep (23) and Utthiramanikandan on May 8. Similarly, his friends Ajith Kumar, and Rajesh were also attacked with sickles and issued murder threats. Their cellphones were also snatched by the criminals. All of these offenders were caught by a police team led by Inspector Murugesan in a single day and imprisoned at the Coimbatore Central Prison."
It was also noted that there have been previous cases against them for selling drugs. Following this, the Police Commissioner ordered for the four offenders to be detained in police custody for one year, under Goondas Act, following the recommendation of the Deputy Commissioner Balaji Saravanan and the Assistant Commissioner Cedric Manuel.
He also warned the other serial offenders at large and said that severe action would be initiated against them too if they continue to be involved in criminal activities.
