The use of face masks have been made mandatory to control the spread of COVID-19. The Central and State governments have been insisting on this as a precaution against COVID-19. Frequent hand washing and the use of face masks have therefore been advised to be practised regularly.
The Corporation and the District administration have also insisted on the use of face masks and have imposed fines on those who violate the rules. A fine of Rs.100 is being collected per person for not wearing a face mask in public.
So far, Rs.2,70,030 from 2,700 people in the East Zone, Rs.69,100 from 691 people in the West Zone , Rs.63,700 637 people in the North Zone, Rs.31,400 from 314 people in the South Zone and Rs.1,29,000 from 1,290 people in the Central Zone has been collected in fines leading to a totall of Rs.5,35,600 from 5,356 people.
Similarly a fine of Rs.97,000 has been collected from the Coimbatore Municipality areas, Rs.61,000 from the Town Panchayats and Rs.13,500 from the panchayats. A total fine of Rs.7,07,100 has been collected from people.
Authorities have informed that this measure will continue and people must wear face masks whenever they step out of their homes.
