Coimbatore: Dredging of Pudhutottam river was inaugurated by the Valparai MLA Kasthuri Vasu, today.
Valparai in Coimbatore District has a lot of rivers running through it, including the Nadumalai river, Vazhaithottam river and the Pudhuthottam river that run through Kamaraj Nagar. During the monsoon rains the rivers overflow and flood nearly 500 houses causing a lot of destruction. The public have therefore been insisting on undertaking dredging in the rivers before the onset of the monsoon.
Following this request, MLA Kasthuri Vasu ordered for the Vazhaithottam river to be dredged, last month. The dredging works were completed from Anna Nagar until Stanmore MGR Nagar.

The second phase of the dredging project involves the Puthuthottam river that flows through Kamaraj Nagar. The puja for the work was done today and the work was inaugurated by the Valparai MLA Kashturi Vasu.
Municipal Commissioner Paunraj, Tahsildhar Raja, Vasu, Cooperative Bank President Valparai Hameed, District Secretary Mayil Ganesan and other government officials and party cadres participated in the event.
