The Isha Yoga Centre Founder Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has welcomed the change of spelling of the names of 1,018 places in Tamil Nadu.

Coimbatore: The Isha Yoga Centre Founder Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has welcomed the change of spelling of the names of 1,018 places in Tamil Nadu.

Expressing his appreciation for the government's decision to change the spelling of names as per their pronunciation, he tweeted, "Tamil is an emotional language and an ancient culture. Names of places denote their cultural, historical and religious significance. The names of the places will cause an emotional bond with the places, for Tamilians. Hence it is important to retain this tradition."

He added, "Similarly, to create a sense of pride in the mind of the people and to reflect our culture the name of India should be changed to Bharath (Bharatham)", he insisted.

Earlier, when answering a question by a North Indian journalist about the imposing Hindi he had said, "Tamil is not just a language. It is a culture and tradition. It is deeply rooted in the minds of the people. People don't just talk Tamil, they breathe Tamil. When they have such a deep emotional connect with the language don't try to impose your language on them."
