People in Coonoor request infected Indian Gaur be isolated from the herd

An Indian Gaur, also known as bison, with infection has been moving around with its herd. Requests have been made to isolate the gaur from the herd to avoid the spread of infection.


The Nilgiris: An Indian Gaur with infection has been moving around with its herd. Requests have been made to isolate the gaur from the herd to avoid the spread of infection among the herd.

It is a common sight to spot Indian gaurs, bears and leopards at the Vandicholai area in Coonoor, Nilgiris.



At the Pitthapuram Palace area in Vandicholai, a herd of gaurs came in search of food and the public spotted one gaur with an infection. The gaur's skin seemed to be turning white due to the infection. The public have therefore requested the forest department doctors to conduct a checkup and find what infection the gaur might be carrying and treat it accordingly.

The public also requested for the gaur to be isolated until it is healed to prevent the infection from spreading to the other bisons in the herd.
