The fifth phase of the COVID-19 lockdown is in place until June 30. However, many relaxations have been granted and this includes the functioning of restaurants and tea shops. These shops have been asked by the government to maintain social distancing norms while providing food to the customers.
Following this, many restaurants have been opened in many areas of the district. To inspect the observance of the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the government, the Municipal Commissioner Saraswathi conducted a surprise inspection at shops on Commercial Street.

She visited the kitchens of various restaurants and conducted inspections.

Whenever unhygienic conditions were spotted, she ordered for the eatery to be sealed. Upon her orders, Municipality officers and Food Safety department authorities sealed a few shops. This inspection and the outcome alarmed the people of the area.
